Microsoft Secures 200 MW Renewable Energy Deal in Indonesia to Power Data Centers
Microsoft (MSFT) shares edged higher following the announcement of a 10-year renewable energy agreement with Indonesia's state-owned electricity provider, PT PLN. The deal will supply 200 megawatts (MW) of clean energy—including 100 MW from solar—to power Microsoft's expanding data center operations in the region.
The partnership aligns with Microsoft's broader sustainability goals while supporting its cloud infrastructure growth across Southeast Asia. The company recently launched its Indonesia Central cluster, marking its second Azure region in the area after Singapore.
Analysts view the move as strategic positioning amid rising demand for AI and cloud services in emerging markets. Microsoft continues investing heavily in digital transformation, with existing facilities in West Java and new sites under construction.
